Lazer’s all-new Jackal mountain bike helmet features a newly developed rotational impact protection system called KinetiCore that is completely different from other systems currently on the market. Instead of creating a slip-plain like MIPS, KinetiCore utilizes specially shaped blocks and channels that are molded into the EPS foam to create crumple zones that not only provide linear impact protection but rotational as well. There are many benefits to this technology beyond rotational impact protection. The first one is weight. The KinetiCore version of the Jackal is 50 grams lighter than MIPS version. Another advantage comes in the form of better air flow. WIth the open block and channel structure, KinetiCore allows for more airflow with a claimed 5% better cooling than the MIPS version because there is not a slip plane system to block air flow. The last benefit comes in the form of less plastic and materials used to create the helmet – up to 24% less according to Lazer. So, not only does KinetiCore perform better for your head, it’s also better for the environment.
