The VeloRunner Midweek Diary

The VeloRunner Midweek Diary — Rides, Running Shoes and Workshop Life
It’s been a busy couple of days at VeloRunner, with an evening on the mountain bikes, plenty happening in the workshop and a trip to talk about looking after Staffordshire County Council’s e-bike fleet.
Tuesday evening saw the VeloRunnerXC MTB ride head out from the store, through Downs Banks and up to Hanchurch, before heading back down Hall Lane and stopping at The Bore Hole. A chance to get out after work, turn the pedals and catch up away from the shop.
There’s always another job waiting, but getting out on the bikes ourselves is a big part of why we do this.
Wednesday brought a change of scene as Peter headed to Apedale Country Park to meet Anthony, Staffordshire County Council’s Active Travel Support Officer. We chatted about maintenance for the council’s fleet of e-bikes and how VeloRunner could help keep them in good working order and ready for use. It was good to meet in person and talk through what the fleet needs.
Back at the shop, lunchtime brought a visit from Mark, who works at Lucideon Limited in Stone,a materials science consultancy that solves your most complex challenges through materials development, process optimization, and characterization.
Mark came in for a gait analysis and a conversation about shoes for everyday running and gym sessions. He mentioned tightness around his IT band and piriformis, alongside occasional pain at the front of his knee. We discussed seeing a sports physiotherapist, along with some simple daily movements and gym work that might help with his symptoms. After talking through his footwear needs, we settled on the Mizuno Wave Rider 30.
Meanwhile, Jon completed work on Rich’s Orbea Rise, fitting a new derailleur, chain and cassette. Mike’s custom Orbea Terra also needed some attention: its chain had been installed upside down and back to front, so we refitted it correctly, carried out a brake bleed and degreased the bottom bracket.
We also fitted narrower handlebars for Sarah to improve her bike fit. It’s the sort of adjustment that deserves time and attention, helping the bike suit the person riding it.
From an evening ride around our local trails to helping customers with their bikes and running shoes, it’s been a varied midweek at the shop. If yours needs some attention, or you’d like to talk through your next pair of running shoes, get in touch with VeloRunner or pop in and see us in Stone.
